Camping fridges · sizing guide

What size camping fridge do you need?

Too small and you're rationing; too big and you're hauling an empty box. Our tracked set spans 16–59 qt — here's how to land in the right band.

The bands

Three size bands cover most trips

As a planning rule: compact models (under ~30 qt) cover a solo weekend; mid-size (~30–45 qt) covers two people for a long weekend; large (45+ qt) covers a family or a week off-grid. Buy for your most common trip, not the once-a-year one.

  • Remember the payload: capacity you don't fill is insulation weight you carry.
  • Freezer use halves effective space — if you freeze, size up one band.

The tradeoff

Bigger box, bigger appetite

Larger fridges draw more and weigh more — capacity and portability pull in opposite directions, which is why our scoring splits the weight between them. Check the draw column before pairing a big fridge with a small power station.
