The physics

What each type actually does

Dryer brushes combine airflow with a rotating or static barrel — one-handed volume and smoothness, and the gentlest learning curve. Multi-stylers swap attachments (curling barrels, smoothing brushes, dryer concentrators) on one motor base — one tool, many finishes. Classic dryers move the most air for the least money in raw drying speed.

  • Want volume with zero skill: dryer brush.
  • Want curls one day, sleek the next: multi-styler.
  • Want fast drying, already own brushes: classic dryer.

The tradeoff

Versatility costs weight and complexity

Multi-stylers pack a motor base plus attachments, so they trend heavier and bulkier than single-purpose tools — check the weight column before assuming “all-in-one” means “travel-friendly.” Single-purpose tools win on simplicity: fewer parts, fewer failures, and usually more owner reviews to judge by.

Our method

How we keep types comparable

We don't score curl quality or finish — those are technique-dependent. We score what spec sheets can prove: weight 30%, sales rank 25%, review count 25%, owner rating 20%. The full formula is on the methodology page.
